The Plan B : for a global ecological treaty - by Lester R. Brown[Reading report] by Benoît Pireyn

2010-03-22

The author graduated from the HEC Paris MS in Sustainable Development.

The world faces various environmental risks of disruption and decline such as global warming, falling watertables, disappearance of forests, melting glaciers, collapsing fisheries, and rising sea levels. In Plan B, Lester R. Brown shows that by ignoring nature's deadlines for dealing with these environmental issues we risk the collapse of economic progress, and of our society. In addition to these environmental risks, the world has to cope with the end of the oil era, the addition of 70 millions people each year, a widening global economic divide, and a continuous expansion of international terrorism. Humanity has never faced global issues of this scale and complexity so far, and must react quickly to offer the future generations a viable world. After years of “Plan A” (that is to say a civilization that doesn't take the environment into account), the only effective response now is a “war-time mobilization”, such as the one USA knew when it entered World War II.
