Manufacturing consent, the political Economy of the mass media - by Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman[Reading report] by Yan Vincent Genod

2007-12-12

The author was part of the "Alternative Management" third year program in HEC Paris in 2006/2007

In this work, Noam Chomsky and Edouard Herman reveal that the American mass media, in their current operational mode, mobilise the American public opinion in favour of the vested interests of the state and the private sector (often called the market). The forces inducing the media to take this role are broken down and analyzed using a "propaganda model" which is described in the first chapter, then deployed and tested on a series of contemporary historical events. (Vietnam, Nicaragua, the "Bulgarian connexion" etc.)
