After more than a half-century of a bloody conflict, Colombia remains one of the most non-egalitarian countries in the world. Taken hostage by armed groups, millions of rural Colombians have been forced to flee their zones of origin to escape violence; in spite of a considerable agricultural potential, rural regions of Colombia have dramatically got behind in the past decades. The purpose of the Utopía project, initiated by the Lasallian brothers in 2009, is to offer to young people coming from rural areas affected by the conflict a formation in order to become an agronomist engineer and a social leader, so that these young people could go back in their regions to drive change and to promote rural development. This paper is dedicated to an analysis of the Utopía project. In the following report, our aim is to give elements of analysis that will enable the reader to assess the pertinence of the project regarding the issue of rural development in Colombia; our opinion is that, whereas it is recent, the Utopía project already seems to give signs of success.
