Their big fear - by François Ruffin[Reading report] by François Petitjean

The author is part of the "Alternative Management" third year specialization program in HEC Paris

Object of all passions for several centuries, the political confrontation between protectionism and free trade has never looked so in favor of the second, as free trade had become an indisputable dogma. However, the French industrial collapse that depicts François Ruffin pushes the journalist who dared to reopen the debate through a series of testimonies and interviews. Starting from union struggles to preserve employment in France, he then questions bosses and economists to expose the damages cause by free trade and to understand why protectionism is so reviled today. At the end of this involved book, the author opens the debate on trade barriers, border taxes and import quotas as necessary tools rather than as an ideal
