Nature et Découvertes : how to put the human dimension in the centre of the corporate model?[Proceedings] by François Lemarchand

François Lemarchand graduated from ESCP and from Harvard Business School where he passed his MBA. Highly interested in nature, travelling and wilderness, he is also an ecologist activist (Greenpeace). He is not the usual entrepreneur and promotes innovative trade. In 1975, he bought Pier Imports out, in order to change it into a successful supermarket that sells products from all over the world. In 1988, he sells the brand to its employees and dedicates his and his wife Françoise's time to set up Nature et Découvertes in 1990. He is now the CEO of this company.

François Lemarchand is a forerunner in corporate ecologist principles and presents Nature et Découvertes, a pioneer company as far as « trading well » goes. That means that he wants to put the human dimension in the center of the corporate model and he wants to put his company at the service of men, with trained and happy employees. Today, beyond his firm, François Lemarchand presents a really positive view of men and the future, with an original view of the company in the future: it would aim more at enhancing social interaction than creating material satisfaction. How can we reconcile a human vision of a company with corporate profitability?
