The Good Consumer and the Bad Citizen - by Robert Rochefort[Reading report] by Samia Mia Kassem

2008-10-30

The author was part of the "Alternative Management" third year program in HEC Paris in 2007/2008.

Can we drive SUV and bother about global warming? Go to discount stores and be enraged by relocation? Here lie French consumption's inconsistencies today. As they were born in a consuming mould, citizens torn between good and bad instinctively turn to bad. Nevertheless an inner voice guides us toward what is considered good nowadays:  eating organic food, saving energy, recycle wastes… What will consumers look like in twenty years? A cynical projection and the consumers' careless behaviour draw the attention on the importance of « factor 4 » for a better environment.
