Virtual Communities: new forms of mobilization and profit generation - by Andrew Paterson[Proceedings] by Andrew Paterson

2009-03-02

triathlon in Australia, he was witness to the degradation of the environment. He then decided to create Laneo, a virtual community, which connects environmental defense associations, sports brands, and individuals. The companies remunerate the feedback on their brands given by individuals; the profit that is generated finances clean-up operations organized by environmental defense associations which are chosen by the individuals. Andrew Paterson shows here how is possible to carry out concrete actions in favor of the environment – or any other cause - while accommodating the interests of different actors through virtual communities created on the web. He underlines the asset of this new federating model and inquires into the profits it can generate.
