Adam Smith, l’économiste malgré lui[Research paper] by François-Xavier Faucounau

: This master thesis is focusing on the work of Adam Smith in order to discuss the basis of economics, its axioms or its paradigm. We consider economics as a specific view or a particular representation of society or social phenomenon. This science gives arguable meanings to human actions while analyzing them. Adam Smith is not considering himself however as an economist, because economics, as we understand it, did not exist in the 18e century. That is what makes his work interesting to understand the origins and the specificity of this science. Besides, this master thesis shows how far Adam Smith was from the idea of Homo Œconomicus, which did not prevent him from elaborating an economic view of society
