Can agricultural producers gain a competitive advantage through Community subsidies?[Research paper] by Marie Chalopin

The author was part of the "Alternative Management" third year program in HEC Paris in 2006/2007

Community Supported Agriculture is intended to foster sustainable, diversified and local agriculture, at a price that is fair for both producers and consumers. Through such a scheme, producers should be able to recover all their production costs and earn a fair return. It seems that Community Supported Agriculture is financially attractive to producers. In the Paris region this scheme for agriculture was developed as recently as in 2004, and meeting producers from this region made me realise that they need several years to adapt their forecasting and production methods to the new scheme. On this basis maybe it is too early to judge if through CSA producers can gain a competitive advantage.
