The author is part of the "Alternative Management" third year specialization program in HEC Paris

Health and education are priorities in the mind of everyone. Many actors strive to ensure universal access to education and to basic health services: increase of budgets, implementation of vaccination and awareness campaigns, etc. However, the results remain disappointing and slow progress reinforces the "skeptics of help" in the idea that it is useless to try to change people's choices. Esther Duflo does not hear it that way and tries to understand the mechanisms responsible for these failures. Inspired by clinical trials, the author presents "randomized" assessments to shed new light on the challenges of human development. This book allows us to understand how traditional policies have achieved their goal, why progress is so slow and how we could manage to make it faster
