Is it possible to identify a Social Doctrine of the Protestant Church? Theological, historical and sociological approach[Research paper] by Alice de Rochechouart

The author was part of the "Alternative Management" third year program in HEC in 2012. She is currently working on a Master in philosophy of religions at the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS).

In the XIXth century, capitalism created new social problems, that led different religions to try to answer them in a new way. The Catholic Church quickly elaborated a Social Doctrine, but what was the Protestant Church’s answer? Is it thus possible to identify a social doctrine of the protestant church, which one could compare to the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church? This studies tries to demonstrate that social actions and thinking proposed by the Lutheran and Reformed churches actually consist in social ethics, that is still to be defined.
