The author prepares a PhD in Management at HEC Paris

The nature of executives' work has changed a lot over the past 20 years due both to social and economical evolutions and to new forms of management. This study wants to explore the impact of this change on executives' motivation at work. Executives are traditionally a individualized category with few collective actions but with a high commitment to work and to a firm's objectives. A survey by questionnaire was distributed to 80 young executives to record their feelings and motivation at work. The result is that we can see in executives a serious investment in their work but also a high level of moral disengagement and a distancing from their professional activates, which can be a source of tension.
