Mass Destruction – The Geopolitics of Hunger - by Jean Ziegler[Reading report] by Sophie Rauch

2014-02-28

The author is part of the "Alternative Management" third year specialization program in HEC Paris

Every 5 seconds, a child aged of less than 10 dies out of hunger. In the meantime, thanks to technical progress, food for 12 billion people is produced everyday. Along with those deaths, millions of people suffer from a mutilated life because of under feeding or malnutrition. Therefore, this book aims at assessing this terrible truth and the failure of international institutions at fighting against it. In favor of the right to food, this book identifies the actors who are to be held responsible for this. Oscillating between facts, figures and telling emanating from the author’s own experience on the field, this book reveals the deeds of thousands of men and women who struggle every day for the access to this right and shatters the mechanisms of humanity massive destruction, that is, speculation on agricultural products, biofuel and states inertia
