The benefits of deliberative democracy – The five estates[Research paper] by Roman Baudin


The author was part of the "Alternative Management" third year program in HEC in 2014. Roman now works as a public sector consultant. He is interested in deliberative democracy issues, State modernization thematics and in the sociology of organizations.

In times of political despair, when representative democracy seems to show its limitations, advocates of deliberative democracy aspire to rebuild democratic legitimacy based on citizens’ deliberation. Relying on the analysis of two famous deliberative events, we show that deliberative democracy can bring strong benefits for collective decision-making, despite the undeniable limits of its practice.
