The Right to Useful Unemployment Postface of Tools for Conviviality - by Ivan Illich[Reading report] by Claire-Isabelle Roquebert

2010-07-23

Claire-Isabelle Roquebert was part of the “Alternative Management” third year program in HEC in 2010.

People have to appeal to a doctor to treat themselves, to a teacher to receive a diploma, to an architect to build their houses, to a lawyer to break up with their spouses… That is nothing but the the elite of Professions protecting their privileges. The over-marketisation of society benefits this elite and dispossesses people from their knowledges, their autonomy, their freedoms and their capacity to create. Exchange value becomes the only measure of things, even the most intimate. The citizen becomes consumer.
