The working condition - by Simone Weil[Reading report] by Pierre Lacaze

The author was part of the “Alternative Management” third year program in HEC in 2010

Simone Weil had the personal will to know the Labor condition from inside. She spent one year working in industry as a laborer in order to actually experience the Labor condition. She wrote everything down: the physical harshness of the work, the moral impact of working cadence, the unfair balance of power between workers and directors that she compared to a relation of slavery. The book also presents the many letters and writings she sent to management as well as to union activists. The author delivers a very tough and deeply thought testimony of the brutality and inhumanity of the Labor condition: she seeks to analyze its causes and to propose ways of improvement.
