Welcome to the Anthropocene - by Claude Lorius & Laurent Carpentier[Reading report] by Elena Schmitt

The author was part of the “Alternative Management” third year program in HEC in 2010-2011.

As one of the world’s first experts in the study of polar ice, Claude Lorius worked on the extraction and analysis of the ice cores in center Antarctic. The results were impressive : three graphs representing the evolution over 160,000 years of the temperature on Earth, and the level of carbon dioxide and of methane in the atmosphere. The graphs showed clearly that men have altered the planet since the beginning of the industrialization. Explaining thoroughly the various impacts the fast development of man has on the Earth, Claude Lorius and Laurent Carpentier state on the planet Earth and on the irreversible changes that have started. In order to face this environmental crisis, only a collective action could still, possibly, succeed.
